BRELA AND MZUMBE COLLEGE ENTER AGREEMENT TO PROVIDE PROPRIETARY AND INNOVATION RESEARCH TRAINING

Mzumbe University, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. William Mwegoha, was one of the four Government Institutions that entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Business Registration and Licensing Agency (BRELA) in Dar es Salaam on May 9, 2024.

The primary aim of this Memorandum of Understanding is to advance Intellectual Property education, instruction and research, including the provision of scholarships for the Master of Intellectual Property program at Mzumbe University, encompassing collaborative efforts in research, consulting, and both long and short-term educational activities.
Additionally, the collaboration extends to providing capacity-building training and seminars for academic and non-academic staff, as well as individuals from both public and private sectors. This partnership will also involve the co-authorship of scholarly publications recognized within the intellectual property, business registration, and licensing domains.

Prof. Mwegoha highlighted that Mzumbe University and Brela will collaboratively establish and deliver agreed-upon degree and non-degree programs, as well as develop curricula for use in primary, secondary and tertiary educational settings across Tanzania.

However, the institutions will cooperatively draft research and consultancy funding projects, facilitate the sharing of expertise, delegate teaching responsibilities and support the dissemination of knowledge in the realms of intellectual property, business registration and licensing by jointly leveraging conferences, technological resources, personnel and skills.
Through the signed MoU, Mzumbe University and Brela will provide opportunities for short-term staff placements in both organizations to foster the exchange of practical skills, experiences, and knowledge in areas of mutual interest. Moreover, they will collaborate on reviewing and enhancing existing degree and non-degree programs relevant to BRELA's functions, such as Business, Economics and Law courses.

The MoU signing ceremony was part of the Intellectual Property Day celebrations held on May 9, 2024, at Johari Rotana, Dar es Salaam.
